Social Impact Series: The Trevor Project
This post is part of SproutHR’s Social Impact Series, highlighting the organizations we support through our charitable giving program, Grow + Give. Every quarter we donate a portion of our total sales to an organization that is doing important work around issues that matter to us.
We believe that every human being is worthy and deserving of love, acceptance, and belonging. That’s why, this quarter, we have decided to celebrate love and the fundamental human right to live your most authentic life out loud.
As we researched various organizations to support, we came across some heartbreaking facts about LGTBQ+ youth suicide:
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 10 to 24 (Hedegaard, Curtin, & Warner, 2018) — and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth are at significantly increased risk.
LGBTQ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020).
The Trevor Project estimates that more than 1.8 million LGBTQ youth (13-24) seriously consider suicide each year in the U.S. — and at least one attempts suicide every 45 seconds.
The Trevor Project’s 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth.

Couple this with other important factors, such as intersectionality, mental health, and the normal daily stress and pressures of life, and the risk of suicide grows exponentially.

We can love people better than this, we can end the stigma surrounding the LGBTQ community, and we can save precious lives. That’s why we chose to donate to The Trevor Project for our 2022 Quarter 2 Grow + Give donation.
The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people, providing information, support, and counseling 24/7, 365 days a year. They also have a ton of great resources for family members, friends, and allies.
